BEIRUT Encore Virtual Benefit Reading
An MCC VIRTUAL BENEFIT READING: an encore of the thrilling reading of the play that launched MCC in 1987.
MARISA TOMEI, OSCAR ISAAC, AND PATRICK BREEN
Set in a dingy Lower East Side apartment in the 1980s, Beirut follows the story of Torch (played by Oscar Isaac), a young man who is in quarantine after testing positive to a nameless disease. His girlfriend (Marisa Tomei, reprising her award-winning role from 1987), refuses to leave him isolating alone. It’s raunchy, it’s real, it’s poetic; and it reminds us of the power of stories, and their role in fostering hope, solidarity and documentation of extraordinary times.
LIVELABS: THE THINGS ARE AGAINST US
A new play from playwright SUSAN SOON HE STANTON and director ELLIE HEYMAN
Lorca. One claw-foot bathtub, two sisters, and a young man’s journey to unearth the dark secrets of his grandfather’s past. All roads lead to a mysterious house with a mind of its own. Are there bones in the basement and passive-aggressive shadows in the corners? The Spreckle house invites you to spend the night.

A new play
by MFONISO UDOFIA
directed by AWOYE TIMPO
Fire. Butterfly. Rollercoaster. How do you meaningfully connect? In this series of 7 short vignettes, poems and songs, ON LOVE, showcases the eight different types of love and the depths in which the human emotion can feel.
One morning every September, Alice, Christa, and Kelly meet for breakfast to catch up on each other’s lives and to remember the husbands they lost on 9/11. Moving backwards in time and spanning a decade, Matthew Lopez’s play explores the burden of the past and how we move on from tragedy — or don’t.

Maribel really wants to fix her daughter’s love life. And despite her mother’s many diversions, Jessie wants her mother to face the real music: the world is changing, and they could both use a little fresh air.
